Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Palace Standard?
The Palace Standard is the teaching framework for a complete martial arts system — Baguazhang, Taiji, and Imperial Longfist (Chaquan) — passed down through a specific lineage traceable to the Forbidden City and the Huangpu Military Academy. It is not a style invented from pieces of other styles. It is a transmission received, decoded, and taught with the understanding of what the forms are actually for.
The name reflects the standard the system was held to when it was created — not for soldiers, not for sport, but for those whose training was a serious study of what the human body and mind can become when developed as one integrated system.
Who is this good for?
People who want to understand their body, not just use it. People committed to longevity — not as a buzzword, but as a daily practice of structural strength, regulation, and perception. People who are tired of fitness trends that produce shallow results and martial arts that have lost their substance.
You don't need prior experience. You don't need to be young, athletic, or flexible. You need patience, consistency, and a willingness to work through the full sequence rather than skipping to what looks impressive. If you want a workout, there are cheaper options. If you want to build a body and mind that hold together under pressure for the rest of your life, this is where you start.
How do I get started?
Classes are capped at three to five students. Admission requires an application and a conversation — not a form, not a payment, not a trial period. You talk with me, we assess fit, and if it makes sense, you begin with the foundation: breath and internal regulation.
The foundation runs six months. What follows continues for years. There is no shortcut and no accelerated track. If that pace suits you, reach out.
